President Obama created the White
House Council on Women and Girls, Wed., by signing it into Executive Order.
Goals of the Council include: Improving
women’s economic security, developing policies that establish a balance between
work and family, new ways to prevent
violence against women at home and abroad and improve women’s health care.
Marking International Women's Month, the order was signed during a week where Secy. Clinton also attended many Women-related events.
President Obama: "So now it's up to us to carry that work forward, to ensure that our
daughters and granddaughters have no limits on their dreams, no obstacles to
their achievements -- and that they have opportunities their mothers and
grandmothers and great grandmothers never dreamed of".
The Council on Women and Girls will work across a wide spectrum of the federal government ‘to keep an eye…internally and externally on women.’ Some of the agencies and the depts. involved, will conceivably take on International roles. These include: State Department / Secy. of State Clinton, Secy. of Defense, Secy. of Commerce, Secy. of Energy, Homeland Security, US Ambassador to the United Nations the US Trade Rep.
